Media devices

Every camera, microphone and speaker your browser exposes through enumerateDevices(). Counts are visible without permission; the device names appear only once you grant access. A machine reporting no media devices at all is one of the clearest headless-browser signals.

Why this matters for fraud detection

Retail laptops and phones ship with at least a microphone and usually a camera and a speaker. A headless Chromium started by Puppeteer or Playwright, or a cheap datacenter VM, typically enumerates zero media devices — there is no hardware behind it. The count is available before any permission prompt, which makes "no devices at all" a cheap, high-signal check. Granting access additionally reveals the device labels, which carry model strings useful for a fuller fingerprint.

Nothing here is uploaded. Enumeration and labels are read locally and never leave your browser.
